Musicans_TenantsBronx Lab School musicians delighted a packed audience of Kittay Tenants jazz enthusiasts with a medley of favorites that spanned decades and bridged the generations. Tenants appreciated the passion and skill of the 7 musicians and their extraordinary teacher Eric Plaks.

The enthusiasm was contagious. For Kittay tenants to see music of their generation passionately played by High School youth was a great experience that touched them deeply.

The buzz about this group had caught the eye of Grammy-winning Latin Jazz legend Arturo O’Farrill, who was planning to visit their school that day, but instead enjoyed the live performance with us at Kittay.

After the crowd dispersed and the music making became casual and spontaneous, Mr. O’Farrill encouraged an inspired rendition of “Afro Blue,” drawing sounds out of the youngsters they did not know they had. It was amazing to see them leap to the next level in honor of the occasion.
