Senior Medical Director

Ruth Spinner, MD serves as Senior Medical Director at The New Jewish Home and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, she is dedicated to improving the health, comfort, and quality of life of older adults through compassionate, evidence-based care. Dr. Spinner plays an active role in clinical excellence, quality improvement, and the education of future physicians and geriatric specialists. She is nationally recognized for her leadership in post-acute and long-term care, with numerous publications and lectures focused on advancing geriatric medicine. Her commitment to excellence has been honored with multiple awards for quality improvement and leadership, including United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions and LeadingAge New York’s James W. Sanderson Memorial Award for Leadership. She is President of the New York Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine and is a past Chair of the Education Committee of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association. Through her work, Dr. Spinner strives to ensure that patients and families feel supported, informed, and respected at every stage of care.

Imran Y. Ali, MD, MPH, MS, Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine (Hospital Medicine), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, practices full-time at The New Jewish Home in Manhattan. He specializes in helping older adults optimize outcomes for cancer-directed treatments through Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments and Frailty Index Scoring. Trained in palliative care at Mount Sinai and the Bronx VA, Dr. Ali has also worked at the University of Connecticut Center on Aging and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, focusing on geriatrics and oncology. He holds a dual MD/MPH degree and has contributed to CNN, ABC News, and other outlets in medical journalism. His work integrates clinical care, research, and advocacy, with a focus on cancer survivorship, cognitive effects of immunotherapy in older adults, and emergency preparedness in long-term care settings.

Sana Durrani, MD is a geriatrician at The New Jewish Home in Manhattan and an Assistant Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She provides comprehensive geriatric primary and complex care, with a clinical focus on heart failure and supporting older adults through safe and thoughtful transitions of care. Dr. Durrani is deeply committed to patient-centered medicine, honoring each individual’s values, goals, and life experiences. She emphasizes non-pharmacological approaches whenever possible, with the aim of improving quality of life while minimizing unnecessary medical burden. Her work to enhance care for older adults has been shared in peer-reviewed journals and at national conferences. Through her clinical, academic, and advocacy efforts, Dr. Durrani strives to strengthen healthcare systems for aging populations in the U.S. and globally. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, and music.

Stephanie Le, MD is a physician at The New Jewish Home, where she provides compassionate clinical care while also teaching Mount Sinai Geriatrics Fellows. She is currently Director of Hospice Medical Affairs at MJHS. She completed a fellowship in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she remains voluntary faculty in the Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center and earned her medical degree and undergraduate degree in Biology with honors from Brown University. Her academic interests include quality improvement and medical education, with a focus on advancing excellence in care for older adults. In 2024 she received United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award for Quality Improvement Champions and was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as an Emerging Healthcare Leader Under 40. She is passionate about sharing knowledge with both healthcare professionals and the community about the high-quality care nursing homes can provide. Outside of work, she enjoys baking and traveling.

Fe T. Reyes-Arcangel, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine (Hospital Medicine), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is a Mount Sinai Health System physician currently based at The New Jewish Home. She is deeply committed to geriatric medicine, mentoring Mount Sinai Geriatric Fellows during their longitudinal long-term care rotations, and to sharing the clinical insight she has gained through many years of practice. Previously, Dr. Reyes-Arcangel served on the Board of Credentialing at Montefiore Einstein and was the second Medical Director of the Sub-Acute Rehabilitation program at The New Jewish Home’s former Bronx campus. In this role, she pioneered continuity of care across long-term, acute, and community settings. A proud grandmother of three, Dr. Reyes-Arcangel values the perspective she brings as both a physician and a member of the geriatric community, allowing her to connect deeply with patients and families.

Berkay Otkur, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine (Hospital Medicine), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is an internal medicine and geriatrics physician. Recognized for his dedication to teaching, he was named the 2020–2021 Geriatric Medicine Fellow of the Year at NYU Langone Health and received commendations for consistently positive faculty evaluations in 2023. Dr. Otkur is committed to training the next generation of geriatricians and advancing patient-centered, sustainable health care systems. Outside of medicine, he enjoys drawing and playing board games with friends.

Jungyun Basham, DNP is a nurse practitioner at The New Jewish Home, where she is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to older adults. She is affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and is board-certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Jungyun brings more than 20 years of nursing experience, including extensive work in critical care settings, such as the Coronary Care Unit, Medical Intensive Care Unit, and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit. For the past seven years, she has focused on caring for residents in skilled nursing facilities. She recently completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice project, which centers on safely reducing opioid use to improve quality of life for older adults, and will graduate in May of 2026.

Sonya Rani Choudhury, DNP-BC, NP is a Mount Sinai nurse practitioner who has provided dedicated care to residents at The New Jewish Home’s long-term care community since 2014. Board certified in Geriatrics and Adult Medicine, Sonya earned her Nurse Practitioner degree from New York University and completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She is deeply committed to delivering compassionate, person-centered care that supports the dignity, independence, and well-being of older adults. In addition to her clinical role, she serves as an adjunct clinical professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, where she mentors future nurses. Her commitment to excellence and service has been recognized with the United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award, the NYU Outstanding Clinical Preceptor Award, and the AJAS Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Susamma T. Idicula, MSN, APRN is a member of the Mount Sinai Health System medical team and practices at The New Jewish Home’s post-acute rehabilitation program. She specializes in delivering high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based care in the post-acute setting, with a strong focus on safety, recovery, and smooth transitions back to the community. Known for blending clinical excellence with compassion, Susamma is dedicated to reducing preventable hospitalizations, promoting health equity, and strengthening transitional care. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from CUNY and later completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing as an Abdul Nurse Practitioner from Saint Peter’s University in New Jersey. Susamma has successfully led initiatives to improve discharge safety and reduce readmissions within the post-acute unit. She begins each day with prayer and reflection, grounding her practice in resilience and empathy.

Shiny Mathew, DNP, ANP is a dedicated Nurse Practitioner at The New Jewish Home in Manhattan and is affiliated with the Mount Sinia Health System. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and nearly 30 years of experience in adult health, she specializes in managing chronic conditions specifically in the geriatric population. Shiny has been instrumental in securing Joint Commission accreditation for The New Jewish Home’s congestive heart failure program. Her patient-centered approach and leadership in program development were recently recognized with the United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Health Care Award. She holds Adult Nurse Practitioner certification and additional credentials in critical care nursing and wound care and has been published in peer reviewed journals. Outside the clinical arena, Shiny mentors emerging nurse practitioners, and enjoys reading, cooking, and watching movies in her spare time.

Brigid Tracey, GNP, MSN, joined the Mount Sinai Health System after graduating from New York University. At The New Jewish Home, she works on the post-acute rehabilitation units, specializing in geriatrics. She started her nursing career in Northern Ireland and immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s. Brigid received an associate’s degree from Iona College, BSN from Pace University, and MSN from NYU. Known for her dedication to the wellbeing of parents and their families, Brigid brings compassion and pride to her work. Inspired by her family, she remains motivated to grow, serve, and pursue her passion each day.
