High Standards

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, infection control and prevention has always been a top priority at The New Jewish Home. In fact, our Manhattan and Westchester skilled nursing facilities continue to receive perfect scores on infection control by the New York State Department of Health (DOH). During these unscheduled and comprehensive DOH surveys, surveyors review our infection control policies and procedures and our medical record. Surveyors also observe each unit, and resident and staff interactions.

Senior Safety Infection Control Training

Infection Control

Our rigorous infection control and prevention measures are firmly embedded in the culture of our organization. Our senior medical director consults frequently with infection control leads from Mount Sinai Health System and the New York State Department of Health to ensure we are implementing the highest standard of infection control during this crucial time. We employ full-time preventionist nurses at our Manhattan and Westchester facilities.

Senior Safety COVID-19 Symptom Policy

COVID-19 Testing and Universal Screenings

Compared to many other skilled nursing facilities, The New Jewish Home implements a more comprehensive testing protocol. In addition to testing new patients on the first day of admission, to ensure their safety and that of our existing patients and residents. New patients are also cohorted in a separate unit for 14 days. All staff members are tested twice a week for COVID-19. Every person who enters our facilities completes a no-contact temperature check and is screened for COVID-19 symptoms.

Senior Safety Personal Protection Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Throughout the pandemic, The New Jewish Home has always been able to provide staff with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely and effectively deliver care. We established intricate systems to monitor and procure PPE. Additionally, our staff receive routine trainings and refresher courses on the proper use of PPE. Staff are required to wear masks at all times.

Meaningful Life and Visitation Meaningful Life and Visitation

Meaningful Life and Visitation

We host many socially distanced group activities for our patients and residents because the best care includes involving the body and mind, and engaging programs. Our rabbis and chaplains provide spiritual care to patients across all faiths. We utilize voice-activated technology to help keep patients connected to families via Amazon Echo Shows. We facilitate daily video calls and window visits at our Manhattan and Westchester Campuses.
