Please review the important weather-related communication below.

Based on reports from the National Weather Service for significant snow and blizzard conditions anticipated to begin Thursday morning into Friday evening, with the possibility of 4”-10” of snow expected across the New York metropolitan area, The New Jewish Home is declaring a Weather Emergency for the following shifts:

  • Evening Shift, Thursday, February 18th (3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)
  • Night Shift on Thursday, February 18th (11:00 p.m. – 7:00 .a.m.)
  • Morning Shift on Friday, February 19th (7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
  • Morning Shift on Friday, February 19th (3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)

Please know that during these emergencies, we strive to do all we can to ensure the safety and security of our residents, clients, tenants, as well as our staff. To that end, we are actively preparing for any special needs that may arise over the next few days. The nursing homes are in emergency mode, and calls are being made to clients in our Home Care programs. We commend all of our teams for the work they do to ensure that the needs of our clients and residents are met.

As a reminder, our Adverse Weather Procedure is:

  • Employees are expected to report to work at their respective site, if possible; or work can be done from an alternate location, with the approval of the supervisor. No new work from home arrangements can be approved.
  • Sick days cannot be paid unless the illness period occurred prior to, or continued after, the Adverse Weather Condition. We have agreed that sick time would also be provided to anyone who actually receives medical treatment at a hospital on the day of the emergency.
  • Vacation and Holidays must be scheduled in advance. No vacation or holiday will be approved if the request comes on the day of the emergency.
  • No early dismissal has been approved.
  • Please excuse those employees who arrive late.

In order to further support staff, Jewish Home is happy to be able to provide the following during this time:

  • Sleeping accommodations will be made for anyone who wishes to stay over.  Please note that staff will be paid for hours worked, rather than hours sleeping.
  • Storm related information will also appear on the Jewish Home website at
  • Meals will be provided for staff on all shifts.

On behalf of the residents, patients, clients and tenants, our sincere thank you to all of you.

Please share this information with those individuals who do not have e-mail access.

Thank you.
