The New Jewish Home mourns the passing of dance legend and arts educator Jacques d’Amboise. We were grateful to have honored Mr. d’Amboise at our 2016 Eight over Eighty Gala. Please watch this wonderful short video from the 2016 gala.

Recognized as one of the finest classical dancers of our time, Jacques d’Amboise led the field of arts education with a model program that exposed thousands of school children to the magic and discipline of dance. In 1976, while still a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, Mr. d’Amboise founded the National Dance Institute in the belief that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate individuals towards excellence. As George Balanchine’s protégé, Mr. d’Amboise had more works choreographed specifically for him than any other dancer in history. He received the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, the Kennedy Center Honor, the National Medal of the Arts, and many other honors in his lifetime.

The New Jewish Home has a proud legacy of empowering older adults to live with purpose and enhanced well-being. We’ve been around since 1848 as one of the nation’s first nursing homes, and now serving older New Yorkers of all backgrounds through a portfolio of health care services, including post-acute care and rehabilitation, skilled nursing, adult day care, assisted living, and at-home care.

See how we continue to elevate health care for older adults through our Research Institute on Aging and our SkillSpring program (formerly known as Geriatrics Career Development program), which empower teens and young adults to begin careers in health care.
