The New Jewish Home is closely and continuously monitoring all matters related to COVID-19 and is taking important precautions to ensure the health and safety of our clients and our staff. Since we serve a frail and vulnerable population of older adults, we are stepping up our infection control precautions and are closely monitoring and adhering to guidelines set forth by NYS Department of Health and the CDC.
Please be assured that our team continues to update our care and procedures in response to this evolving situation.
We are currently administering the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to our staff and residents. We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated.
As a health care system proudly serving our community since 1848, it is our duty to do everything in our power to protect those in our care. The New Jewish Home is implementing a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all staff as a condition of employment. By October 8, 2021 all current Jewish Home staff must have received a complete series of a COVID-19 vaccine (subject to certain limited legal exemptions). We believe that our staff vaccine requirement is an important step we must take to safeguard our clients, our community and our entire Jewish Home team.
Additionally, please find below our pandemic plans for our Manhattan and Westchester facilities.
In order to limit the chance of exposing our patients and residents to potential COVID-19 in the community, we have updated the following policies.
Manhattan Skilled Nursing Facility
(updated December 29, 2022)
Visitation for all units is permitted, but we ask that you postpone your visit if you are not feeling well.
Please carefully read the following guidelines for in-person visitation:
Westchester Skilled Nursing Facility
(updated October 7, 2022)
While mask mandates have been lifted in certain settings, please note that masking is still required at our facility. Please carefully read the following guidelines for in-person visitation:
University Avenue Assisted Living (ALP)
(updated March 18, 2022)
Visitors are no longer required to schedule visits in advance.
All residents and visitors should wear face coverings or masks and physically distance, particularly if either is at increased risk for severe disease or are unvaccinated.
If the resident (or family member or other individual associated with the resident) reports a possible close contact to an individual with COVID-19 while outside of the ALP, and the resident is unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, the resident will be placed on quarantine. If the resident becomes symptomatic for COVID-19, the resident will be placed on transmission-based precautions regardless of vaccination status.
Residents who leave the ALP for 24 hours must be tested twice for COVID-19 upon their return: our nurse will provide rapid COVID-19 tests on the day they return and again after five days.
The health and safety of our residents, patients, and staff remain our priority. We are following the guidance provided by the NYS Department of Health and the CDC.
